Morning Star Lodge #20 was instituted February 9, 1854. The Lodge met for several years on the second floor of a 48 x 24 foot hillside building located nearby. In 1859 the members erected a new building at 467 Main Street. On May 15, 1910 a fire started in the woodshed behind the County Court House and both buildings were destroyed. Fun Facts:
In 1851, the IOOF became the first U.S. fraternity to include women by creating the Rebekah Degree, thanks to Schuyler Colfax. Named after the biblical Rebekah.
